Okay,Okay, the gay dating scene in Birmingham is by no means on the same scale as that
of Manchester, London, or Brighton but for those in the know, it’s definitely a
pretty happening place to be. Birmingham’s gay village is based around Hurst
Street, and that’s where you’ll find the best gay dating
bars in Birmingham and the best clubs and club nights for gays in the city.
Birmingham has a relatively new gat bar scene, which kicked off around forty
years ago back; the city’s first club for gays opened in 1969 and is still going
strong today. These days, the area around Hurst Street is packed with venues
which are specifically targeted towards lesbians and gay men. You won’t have to
look for far for great gay bars in this area. t standing gay venue is The Nightingale, or just The Gale as it is known affectionately. This was Birmingham’s first and it’s still considered by many to be the best. The huge bar and club is spread over three floors and packs in some top class entertainment. The Gale attracts big name DJs, burlesque acts, drag shows, and celebrity appearances. For a real fun, but slightly camp nihgt out, go along to one of their themed fancy dress nights when the dress code might be toga’s, uniform’s, or dead celebrities.
Chillin’ Like a Villain
If you and your date are more into chilling out, sipping cocktails and schmoozing with the beautiful people of Birmingham, The Loft Lounge is probably right up your street. Kick back to some chill out tunes here in one of their plush sofa’s then move on down the street to Equator Bar for much of the same and maybe a bite to eat.
Down and Dirty
When you’ve had enough of good, clean, wholesome fun it is time to check out Boltz Club. Boltz appeals mainly to men, and men who are looking for fun at that. This place bills itself as ‘the horniest club for gay men in Birmingham’ –says it all really. If you’re heading to Boltz, be prepared for all out debauchery, lots of naked flesh, and plenty propositions.
Join the Girls
The female equivalent of Boltz is The Fox, a fun packed bar targeted mainly at women b ut where gay men are, of course, always welcome. Probably not a great place for meeting other gay men, but definitely a top place to hang out mid week when there’s karaoke, bingo, cheap drinks, and all round camaraderie.
